Visa for Medical Stay

Patients and their family members visiting Japan for medical treatment are generally required to obtain a medical visa (visa for medical stay) prior to traveling. A tourist visa permits only a short stay. If you or your family members enter Japan with a tourist visa, you will not be able to change it to a medical visa during your stay. Should your treatment period extend, you will need to return to your home country to apply for a medical visa.

For more details about the “Visa for Medical Stay,” please visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s website.

Foreign patients seeking medical treatment or other medical services at a Japanese medical institution should consult the lists of registered guarantors, such as medical coordinators and travel agencies, associated with this visa scheme. Our International Medical Support Center is staffed with personnel from a travel agency listed as guarantors. If you apply for a consultation at our hospital individually, they will assist you with your medical visa application. Otherwise, you can find the list of guarantors from the link posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website as below:

Second Opinion

Second Opinion

Our second opinion service aims to provide patients with insights and alternative treatment options from a third-party perspective. Physicians at our hospital will address questions regarding explanations and treatment plans from other medical institutions, offering valuable information and various treatment.

Second Opinion Outpatient Clinic

By appointment only.
The date and time will be decided in consultation with the attending physician.
The Clinic is open from Monday to Saturday (excluding holidays).

Fees for Second Opinion Consultations

  • 55,000 yen / consultation

When making an inquiry, please submit your referral letter and any relevant materials, such as test results or imaging films.

Payment

  • Based on the agreed estimated cost for our treatment plan, we will issue an invoice.
  • In Japan’s health insurance system, the cost of medical services, including consultations, prescriptions, hospitalization, surgeries, and more, is calculated with a unit price per medical service fee point.
  • For patients without Japanese health insurance, our hospital charges 20 Japanese yen per insurance point. This follows the “Manual for Calculating Medical Expenses for Foreign Nationals, Ver. 2.4” by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, which helps medical institutions set individual medical fees for foreign patients.
  • Payment should be made via international transfer before the patient’s arrival. After the treatment is completed, the medical expenses will be settled. Any additional charges can be paid in cash or by credit card. In case of a refund, the amount will be transferred to the patient’s bank account.
